Bi-directional ABR mechanism (Decreasing feedback delays)

چکیده
ABR mechanism was designed for controlling the traffic flows in ATM networks. The key factor for efficient and stable controlling of traffic control loops is fast transfer of feedback control information from the network back to the traffic source. In ABR mechanism so-called Resource Management (RM) cells are used for this purpose. Limited number of these control cells is especially noticeable in local area networks with negligible round trip time delays, when lower bit rates (less than 1 Mbps) are in question. Bidirectional ABR connections are composed of two independent unidirectional ABR connections with each having its own flow of RM cells. Our proposal is to modify existing RM cells in such a way that each RM cell will be able to transfer control information for both directions at the same time. With the use of such modified RM cells and some modifications in network elements, the ABR control loop response time can be substantially reduced for relatively small price. The number of RM cells in the network and therefore the amount of overhead information remains unchanged.

Feedback Control of Multiloop Abr Traac in Presence of Cbr/vbr Traac Transmission
Existing works on ABR feedback control design basically neglected the eeect of multiple feedback loop delays and high-priority CBR/VBR traac transmission. With multiloop delays, the already existing low-frequency high-magnitude oscillations of ABR traac within each loop can become much worsened. With CBR/VBR priority traac, the original control stability conditions can be ruined. This paper pro...
متن کاملOptimal Multilevel Feedback Policies for ABR Flow Control using Two Timescale SPSA
Optimal multilevel feedback control policies for rate based flow control in available bit rate (ABR) service in asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) networks are obtained in the presence of information and propagation delays, using a numerically efficient two timescale simultaneous perturbation stochastic approximation (SPSA) algorithm. Convergence analysis of the algorithm is presented. Numerical ...

متن کاملCommunication through coherence with inter-areal delays
The communication-through-coherence (CTC) hypothesis proposes that anatomical connections are dynamically rendered effective or ineffective through the presence or absence of rhythmic synchronization, in particular in the gamma and beta bands. The original CTC statement proposed that uni-directional communication is due to rhythmic entrainment with an inter-areal delay and a resulting non-zero ...
متن کاملTime-varying auditory gain control in response to double-pulse stimuli in harbour porpoises is not mediated by a stapedial reflex
Echolocating animals reduce their output level and hearing sensitivity with decreasing echo delays, presumably to stabilize the perceived echo intensity during target approaches. In bats, this variation in hearing sensitivity is formed by a call-induced stapedial reflex that tapers off over time after the call. Here, we test the hypothesis that a similar mechanism exists in toothed whales by su...
